Dragiša Brašovan
Architect and academician
A native of Vršac whose buildings helped define the appearance of other cities, especially Novi Sad.
Born in Vršac, his career connected Banat with major twentieth-century architectural projects.
Life and work
Dragiša Brašovan left an important mark on twentieth-century architecture. He worked in Budapest, then in Banat and Belgrade, developing his career across different settings and types of commission.
Novi Sad remembers him through the Banovina complex, the Workers’ Chamber building and the Main Post Office. These projects show how individual buildings can shape a city’s identity. He was a corresponding member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
His story offers a wider perspective on Vršac’s heritage: a town is also reflected in the work of people who carried its influence elsewhere.
